Montclair/Piedmont Avenue
Montclair – The Montclair district is a heavily wooded hillside neighborhood with a wide assortment of homes, ranging from small woodsy retreats to estates. The views are spectacular and the neighborhood has numerous expansive, forested parks that offer opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and even camping and fishing. The country lanes, wooded slopes, and unique hilltop homes wind their way down to a charming business district known as the Montclair Village. This is the hub for residents with restaurants, shopping, and many services. It is also the location of the Oakland office of the Grubb Company. On Sundays, the main street closes for a farmers market that is a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike. The Piedmont-side of Montclair is one of the most desirable and accessible neighborhoods. The Piedmont Pines section of Montclair offers many older homes that were originally used as vacation retreats by residents of San Francisco. Montclair enjoys good elementary schools, a wonderful neighborhood park, tennis and basketball courts and a public library.
Piedmont Avenue – This urban mecca runs between MacArthur Boulevard and Pleasant Valley Road and offers some of the most popular locally-owned businesses in the East Bay. It is a rare day that residents don’t visit the Avenue to shop, eat or enjoy a coffee. If time is not an object, residents will join visitors who wait in line outside Fentons Creamery to enjoy massive locally made ice cream sundaes (at a massive price) and then make their way to the next showing of an independent film at the Landmark Piedmont Cinemas. It is close to Interstate 580, and within a short ride to the MacArthur BART Station, making it a top choice for commuters. Housing consists of charming cottages and multi-unit buildings.
